Time in range (TIR)

The share of your readings that fall within your target glucose band: a modern day-to-day measure of control.

Time in range is the percentage of your glucose readings that land inside your target band, commonly 70–180 mg/dL (3.9–10 mmol/L). It captures something an average can hide: two people with the same mean glucose can have very different swings.

A widely cited goal is more than 70% of the day in range, with less than 4% below it. Because it reflects daily life, many clinicians now read time in range alongside A1C.
