Metabolic syndrome
A cluster of conditions (waist size, blood pressure, glucose, and lipids) that together raise health risk.
Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed when several risk factors occur together: a larger waist, elevated blood pressure, raised fasting glucose, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol. Insulin resistance usually sits underneath them.
Having it raises the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease, but it's highly responsive to changes in movement, diet, sleep, and weight.
