Food order is the simplest change. The same logic says never to eat carbohydrate on its own: a plain slice of bread lands faster than the same slice eaten alongside eggs or a salad, because the protein, fat, and fiber all slow the glucose arriving from the gut.
Preparation matters too. Starch that has been cooked, cooled in the fridge, and reheated forms resistant starch, a portion that digests slowly or not at all. Yesterday's rice or potatoes, reheated, often produce a smaller rise than the same dish served fresh. And a little acid before a starchy meal, a vinaigrette on a starter salad or a spoonful of vinegar in a glass of water, slows stomach emptying for many people. After the meal, movement helps in a different way.
